The Front Lines of Humanity

Who stands on the frontlines of humanity shaping culture? Who is the first line of defense against evil? Who fights on a daily basis to keep the forces of hell at bay that want to destroy our families? It’s mom.

Lots of people talk about the importance of the government shaping our world or the role teachers have in shaping the next generation of society. Some even extol the virtues of the arts and media in shaping culture. It’s true that teachers, the government, and media all play a role in culture, but behind every senator, activist, professor, artist, or movie producer was a mother….a mother who nurtured her child on a loving pathway or a mother who neglected her duties to train a child and guide his path.

Every mother instilled some value system into every future adult…intentionally or unintentionally. She instilled a value system that was embraced or rejected. A value system that a child was able to build on or one they had to overcome.

Sure it’s true that children will eventually make their own choice as to the path they take in life. And I understand that moms aren’t the only voice speaking into a child’s life, but mom–make sure your voice is the loudest. Make sure your kids know your values and your philosophy. Your voice is the one that matters most. And on the days when you are drained and wonder if all the effort is worth it, remember you are standing on the front lines of humanity. Remember humanity is counting on you. We need you to show us unconditional love. We need your wise voice of reason. We need the stability you provide in the midst of the storm. We need you as an anchor for the future.

If you’re a mom with young children know that your labors are not in vain. One day all of the world will rejoice at your faithfulness. If you haven’t thanked your mom in awhile for her sacrifices, today is the day. Stop reading and give her a call or better yet take her out for dinner just the two of you and thank her.

Who is someone famous you admire? I bet you can’t name their mother, but that’s okay because our world is better because of their unseen work. The legacy of that mother changed the world through her child.

Maybe you are in a place where you aren’t so sure that between diapers, bills, laundry, and the daily commute you are changing the world. Just remember that your most important legacy might not be what you do, but whom you raise.

Mom’s…don’t grow weary in the good that you are doing and in the seeds that you are sowing. The story isn’t finished yet. The world is counting on you and if no one else tells you, know that I’m so grateful for your hard work. You have more power and influence than you can possibly imagine! You are shaping the future. Stand proud and don’t give an inch.

Happy Mother’s Day!
